Contacting the Three Credit Bureaus by Mail

Form Letter

Contacting the three major credit bureaus may not be at the top of your to-do list, but it is important to know how to reach each of them quickly and efficiently.

You can either call each of the credit bureaus toll-free or contact them via the Internet, using the respective online links provided on their websites.

But oftentimes, due to high call volumes, it may be difficult to reach the credit bureaus by phone, or you may not be completely comfortable using the Internet as a means of communication. And if you are a traditionalist, perhaps you simply prefer the written word as a means of communicating important information.

As long as your letter is brief, detailed and to the point, any questions you have for officials at each of the three credit bureaus should be resolved within 30 days.

Using the sample letter below as your model, substitute your personal information in place of the text marked in red. You may also download a printable version of the letter (PDF).

The following includes suggested language that will help you resolve your credit report-related issues and concerns quickly and easily through regular mail channels.
